Vehicle Computer with GPS

Dozens of Applied Data Systems have made use of the Global Positioning System (GPS).

The system enables a GPS receiver to determine its location, speed and direction. The satellite constellation is managed by the United States Air Force and is funded by the US. GPS is free for civilian use worldwide as a public good.

GPS has become a widely used aid to navigation, and with a differential system reference to a stationary receiver on the ground, can navigate a tractor to within a few inches of a refrence point. Also, the broadcast time signal can be used for synchronization of telecommunications networks.

Typically, Applied Data will interface to a GPS subsystem using a serial, SPI or I2C port. For higher volume custom projects, we may place a GPS chip on the board.
